Flight Fest may only happen once
a year, but planning for this event is a year-round process.
Here are some recaps of recent shows, some insight into what goes on within
the Flight Fest organization and its involvementin the airshow industry.

November, 2004:
The Chilliwack Flight Fest won 1st Place in the Tourism Award
category at the annual Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence
Awards.
February, 2004: The Chilliwack Flight Fest is pleased to announce
that Airshow Boss Ray Firkus was elected to the Board of Directors at
the Northwest Council of Airshows Conference and AGM held February 6 &
7 in Richmond. And, citing his dedication to the Flight Fest, and support
of the airshow industry, President April Zalesky presented Ray with the
President’s Award for 2004.
July, 2003: The 2003 Chilliwack Flight Fest experienced
its largest crowd with an estimated turn-out of 12,000 fans to watch as
the Canadian Forces Snowbirds performed for the first time in our community.
The show was opened by the Canadian Forces Skyhawks skydiving team, and
featured Kent Pietsch, Bud Granley, Ken Fowler, John Mrazek and Bill Phipps,
and a surprise visit by the Stealth.

January, 2003: Celebrations
are being planned all across North America to commemorate the centennial
of motorized flight. The Wright Brothers’ first motorized flight occurred
on December 17, 1903 and lasted 59 seconds.The Canadian Forces Snowbirds
have planned 100 fly-pasts at 100 different locations around North America
in addition to their airshow performances.
December, 2002: The 2003 Canadian Forces Snowbirds schedule
was officially announced at the International Council of Airshows Convention
held in Las Vegas. Airshow Boss Ray Firkus was in attendance to learn that
the Chilliwack Flight Fest was successful in its application and the Snowbirds
will perform in Chilliwack for the first time on Saturday, July 26, 2003.
August, 2002: A frenzy of fireworks flew in all directions
from the Russian Yak 54. Eric Beard masterfully flew a tight aerobatic performance
in the dimming twilight of Saturday, August 28. Approximately 400 guests
at the annual Chilliwack Flight Club BBQ & Dance were joined by another
several hundred people in the Airport parking lot to watch the first time
an aerobatic, pyrotechnic night performance was held in Chilliwack. |
